Sweet peas are a rewarding flower, even in warm climates. Mine at the moment are making a splash of colour both outside and inside the house, but of course their superpower is their delightful fragrance when you have them in a vase.

At last we have some colour in our cleomes! I first sowed the seed from a seed company pack back in Summer, and all the surviving plants were white flowered. They were an elegant foil for the colourful zinnias planted alongside, but they were supposed to be a colour mix. Growing cleomes It turned out to be a timing thing. Autumn here is a mild season. It is accented by a flush of flowers, from orchids to vegetables, but an outstanding group of plants now is the salvias. Here our Autumn colour comes from flowers rather than changing leaves. Pineapple sage has leaves with an attractive pineapple/tangerine scent which can be used like mint as a drink garnish.
